HOW SAFE IS YOUR CAR , YOUR TIRES MAKE THE DIFFERENCE
71HOW SAFE IS YOUR RIDE?
DO YOU KNOW HOW IMPORTANT THE TIRE IS TO THE MODERN CAR?
The tire is what makes the modern car what it is today! With out tires we would still be rolling around on steel rims with wooden spokes, at 5 miles per hour. With the modern tire we can travel fast with safety, as long as you maintain your tires in good condition. Here are some tips to help you get the most out of your tires.
a. You should buy the type of tire designed for your type of driving, what and where is most of your driving going to be? The rubber in today’s tire is compounded for different types of roads and driving conditions.
b. If it seems that your tires are wearing too fast, maybe you have the wrong tire for the kind of driving you are doing. Talk to a tire professional not just the kid at the service station. He will help you determine what the best tire is for you.
c. Then to make them last as long as possible here is what you should do: maintain the proper recommended air pressure evenly in all tires. Buy your own pencil type air gauge and check your tires your self while the tires are cold, or before you have driven five miles. After five miles they gain pressure from the friction of rolling on the road.
d. Inspect the tread of the tire to see if they are wearing evenly, especially the front tires, they take all the abuse of turning. Also look at the wear ridges in between the tread, if those are showing across the width of the tire it is becoming too worn to be safe for many more miles. It should be replaced before too long.
e. If the tread on the front tires is feathering on one side or the other it means the front end is out of alignment. You should take you car to an alignment shop and have it aligned, and the tires rotated from front to back. This will prevent more excessive wear on the front tires.
What wheel do you want?
WHY DIFFERENT RUBBER COMPOUNDS?
There several good reasons why the tire and rubber companies make and use different compounds in their tire and rubber products. All the products have differnt uses so the requirements are different ex: rubber gloves for the kitchen use a different compound than rubber gloves for the garage or service station.
As you know there are many different tires for your car. Mud and snow tires have a deep angled tread pattern to enable the tire to grip the road through the ice and snow, they use a softer compound for better traction. Highway tires have a smooth even tread pattern and use a harder compound so you will get many miles use out of them. There are even OFF ROAD tires used on 4-wheel drives for rock climbing, in such places as THE RUBICON RIVER TRAIL in California. The tires have a special soft compound so they can grip the rocks as they climb.

Useful and interesting. Actually can use this right now. Know engines, struts, etc. better than tires--except that they have to be inflated! Hah. Good hub.
